日本の伝統的な染色技法である”藍染”の作業工程を撮影した際、
身体的であり感覚的な作業自体に興味をおぼえた。
撮影した画像を拡大したり、スクロールをしていると、
濃紺な藍の染料の中を、感覚を頼りに泳いでいるようだった。
どこへ向かうのか、何を見つけられるのか。
その偶然性に身をまかせていると、それまで知らなかった世界の広がりを画像の中に感じた。
そこで、撮影した画像を感覚を頼りにトリミングし、新たな画像を切り出し、
また、藍が紫外線と反応することで青く染まることから、
プリントもサイアノタイプで制作した。
藍染という染色技法を、写真作品として昇華することを試みた作品である。
When I photographed the process of indigo dyeing, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique,
I was intrigued by the physical and sensory nature of the work itself.
As I zoomed in and scrolled through these images,
I felt as if I was swimming in a dark blue indigo dye, relying on my senses.
Where would I go, what would I find?
As I let myself be carried away by the coincidence,
I felt the spread of a world I had never known before in the images.
Therefore, I trimmed the images I had taken, relying on my senses, and cut out new images.
I also made prints using cyanotype,
due to the fact that indigo dyes blue when it reacts with ultraviolet rays.
This work is an attempt to sublimate the indigo dyeing technique as a photographic work.
