藍染は、植物染料である「藍」を用いた染色技法である。
数回に分けて染め上げられる工程の中、藍の独特な色味や染め上げられたものの
微細な違いなど、染める作業の一回性という部分が印象深く残った。
藍に手を入れた時の水面の波紋や、その作業に合わせてよじれた衣服、染める工程の中で、一つ一つの動きがきっかけとなり伝播していく様子を写真に収めた。
その写真を詳細に追っていくと、惑星や氷河、また細胞のようなモチーフが
色とともに浮かび上がってきた。
藍を通して得た感覚から、そこに広がる世界のマクロとミクロを行き来する中で、自然の断片を捉え、かたちにしていくことにした。
この作品は、青と黒の濃淡による色の深み、また版を重ねる事で生じる微妙なズレなど、リソグラフ特有の印刷技法を用いる事で、藍染を印刷物として表現する事を試みた作品である。
Indigo dyeing(Aizome) is a dyeing technique that uses the plant dye "indigo".
When I saw the process of indigo dyeing, I was deeply impressed by the unique color of indigo, the minute differences in the dyed products, and the one-time nature of dyeing.
I photographed the ripples on the surface of the water when the craftsman dipped his hands into the indigo, the clothes that twisted as he worked, and the way each movement triggered and propagated the dyeing process. As I followed the photographs in detail, motifs such as planets, glaciers, and cells emerged with
the colors.
From the sensation I got through indigo, I went back and forth between the macro and micro of the world spreading out there, and decided to capture the fragments of nature in them and give them shape.
This work is an attempt to express indigo dyeing as a printed matter by using Risograph, with the depth of the colors created by the shades of blue and black,
and the subtle shifts caused by the layering of the printing plates.
The title "yoha" is a Japanese-word that refers to the influence of a certain thing on the things around it. It also refers to that effect itself.
